This is an unedited picture of my Classic Red NA from last night.
Another. The effect is super eerie in person; it appears grey with a purple tint, even down to the closest of inspections.
Now, with my phone’s flash turned on, it turns red again.

Halogen vapour lights which are pretty popular with street lighting do that. They give off light (sort of) but they poorly display colours. Ages ago the badge from a fire-engine red Mazda wagon my family owned got nicked and when parking badly under this lighting, they got a ticket for an orange Nissan. No need to pay that.
My stepdad is an electrictal engineer and he can go anal on lighting and how different setups impede colours and such.

The current ones here were implemented for the benefit of the nearby Lick Observatory. It seems though that everybody hates them and they’re slotted to be replaced by white LEDs.
